The Hindu Vocabulary For All Competitive Exams 11th June 2023

1. Solace (Noun): साांत्वना: Comfort or consolation in a time of distress or sadness.

Synonyms: Comfort, Consolation, Relief, Support, Soothing

Antonyms: Distress, Agony, Torment, Discomfort, Misery

Example Sentence: After the loss of her loved one, she found solace in the company of her friends.

2. Insinuation (Noun): अंदाज़ा, इशारा: an unpleasant hint or suggestion of something bad (an indirect or subtle hint)

Synonyms: Inference, Suggestion, Hint, Indication, Omen

Antonyms: Explicit statement, Clear declaration, Direct assertion

Example Sentence: The insinuation in her tone suggested that she didn't trust him.

3. Underpin (Verb): समर्थन करना: To support, strengthen, or provide a foundation for something.

Synonyms: Sustain, Bolster, Undergird, Uphold

Antonyms: Undermine, Weaken, Oppose

Example Sentence: He presented the figures to underpin his argument.

4. Impinge (Verb): प्रभावित करना: To have an impact, effect, or influence, especially in a negative or intrusive way.

Synonyms: Affect, Influence

Example Sentence: The loud noise from the construction site impinged our ability to concentrate.

5. Apportion (Verb) : बाांटना: To divide or distribute something among different people or groups.

Synonyms: Allocate, Divide, Distribute, Assign, Share

Antonyms: Collect, Gather, Accumulate, Hoard

Example Sentence: It is important to apportion resources fairly to ensure equal opportunities for everyone.

6. Alacrity (Noun) : तत्परता: Eagerness, readiness, or willingness to do something quickly and enthusiastically.

Synonyms: Promptitude, Fervor

Antonyms: Unwillingness, Reluctance

Example Sentence: I accepted the new job with alacrity.

7. Pivotal (Adjective):महत्वपूर्ण, मुख्य: Of crucial importance in relation to the development or success of something else. Being the central point or axis around which something revolves

Synonyms: essential, important, central, critical, significant, fundamental

Antonyms: insignificant, unimportant, peripheral, minor

Example Sentence: The CEO's decision was pivotal to the company's success.

8. Looking for a needle in a haystack (Idiom): something that is impossible or extremely difficult to find

Synonyms: Searching for a grain of sand on a beach, Finding a diamond in the rough, Mission impossible

Antonyms: Easy task, Clear and straightforward search

Example Sentence:  I looked everywhere for my earring at the beach but it was like

trying to find a needle in a haystack.

9. Get bent out of shape (Idiom): To become excessively upset, angry, or agitated over a trivial or minor issue.

Synonyms: Angry, Furious, Enraged, Get pissed off, freak out

Antonyms: Stay calm, Remain composed

Example Sentence: I got really bent out of shape when my boss didn't like my presentation.

10. Birds of a feather (Idiom): Similar or like-minded people.

Synonyms: Bobbsey twins, alike

Example Sentence: Birds of a feather flock together, so I’m not really surprised that

you two get along.
